The Good

As annoying as I have always found Fran Drescher, she won me over with this three disc set.

The Bad

No Special Features.

I hesitantly agreed to review The Nanny: The Complete Second Season because I have never been a fan of Fran Drescher. In fact, when this show as on TV, I went out of my way to avoid it. There was just something about her nasally delivery... about her very presence that drove me to distraction.

So, imagine my surprise when I popped in this three disc, twenty six episode set and found myself legitimately laughing at Drescher's comic foibles. Here is the scoop, Fran Drescher plays Fran Fine. A woman who has mistakenly been give the job of Nanny to three kids. Over the course of the first season, I assume she grew close to them otherwise why would she still be there for a second one? Factor in that there is definitely something between her and the kid's father, Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaugnessy) and you have recipe for a light, yet biting sitcom.

The Nanny: The Complete Second Season features Drescher in a variety of comedic situations and it's also filled with guest stars like Sally Jesse Ralphael, Billy Ray Cyrus and Erik Estrada.

Features

No "Special Features" came in this three disc set.

Video

Full Screen - As this is a sitcom there really isn't anything too special about the way these shows look. Also, since it's fairly recent (The Nanny ran from 1993-1999), the compression of these discs haven't created any undue pixilation or condensed the images at all. Overall, the look of the show, like the subject matter, is pretty simple.

Audio

English - Dolby Digital 2.0.. The audio on these discs is exactly the same as the picture in the sense that there is nothing too amazing about it. I found the writing on the show to be solidly done, and completely catered towards Drescher's sharp tongued style and delivery. I didn't notice any dropouts and, interestingly enough, I didn't have to turn on the sound on my set that loud either.

Package

A very svelte Fran Drescher takes up about half this cover of The Nanny: The Complete Second Season. The lion skin dress she's wearing is also a good touch. The back brings people up to date with a description of this show, it serves up some pictures and it also offers technical specs. The discs are all snugly housed inside the packaging which also offers up some more pictures from the various episodes.

Final Word

Alright, aside from enjoying this show, I doubt that I am going to start following Fran Drescher's career. In fact, if I can help it, I am not sure that I am even going to try and review any more of The Nanny boxsets. This isn't to say that I suffered through this one but I am not sure that I want to taint the experience. After all, how many stories of mistaken identity with this character can I watch?

Overall, if you are a fan of Fran Drescher or The Nanny than I highly recommend picking up The Nanny: The Complete Second Season.
