Light a candle for Bonnie Aarons' return in The Nun 2, as it has been officially confirmed she will be back in the horror sequel to reprise her role as Valak. Just recently, it was announced at CinemaCon that The Nun 2 was moving forward as the next installment of the ultra-popular Conjuring horror movie franchise. No cast members were announced, but it was divulged that Akela Cooper (Malignant) would be teaming back up with producer James Wan to write the script.

It just wouldn't be The Nun 2 without Aarons back as Valak, and it would seem that Wan also knows this to be true. Taking to Instagram, Wan confirmed that Aarons will be back in the sequel, welcoming her by posting some images of her in character on set. Wan also welcomed director Michael Chaves back into the Conjuring fold. Chaves previously helmed the franchise films The Curse of La Llorona and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

Bonnie Aarons Is Celebrated by Horror Fans for Her Role in The Nun

The Nun Awakens in First Look at New Conjuring Spin-Off

Horror fans loved Bonnie Aarons as Valak, making her one of the more popular modern horror stars. She has been ready to revisit that role, teasing a return in April 2021 while promoting the horror film Jakob's Wife. Aarons said how much she loved the character and that she was eager to return, as long as she was happy with "what they wrote." It would appear that the stars have aligned properly for Aarons to come back, which is just as wonderful for the fans as it is for her. As she said last year:

"I light a candle every day. I would love to jump back in that habit. I love that film and that character and that whole crew. I light a candle every day. I have to see what they wrote, you know, I hope it explores more of the depth of the demon. I think the demon came from the bowels of hell. We'll see whatever it is. It's Warner Brothers. It's going to be phenomenal. It's New Line Cinema. Whatever they do is going to be phenomenal. They really know how to make a film over there."

Released in 2018, The Nun was directed by Corin Hardy and written by Gary Dauberman. James Wan contributed to the story and produced with Peter Safran. along with Bonnie Aarons, the film stars Demian Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, and Jonas Bloquet.

The Nun serves as a prequel in the Conjuring series, set in 1952 Romania. It follows a Roman Catholic priest and a nun uncovering an unholy secret. With a modest $22 million budget, the film topped $365 million at the box office, making it a pretty big success for Warner Bros. A new director and writer will see The Nun 2 going in a different direction creatively, but with key talent like Bonnie Aarons in place to return as Valak, the sequel is off to a pretty good start with its production.

The Nun 2 doesn't yet have an official release date.
