At San Diego Comic Con, the latest, and most likely final, trailer for The Nun was released, and it is arguably even more terrifying than the previous trailer we received last month. The Conjuring spin-off looks destined to show more aspects of this cinematic universe, being rather different than any of the other movies in the rest of the Conjuring franchise.

The Nun was first set up back in 2016 in The Conjuring 2 when the Nun made her first appearance. Last year, the movie was teased yet again at the end of Annabelle: Creation when the Nun herself showed up after the credits. Based on all of this set up, and the looks of the new Comic-Con trailer, anyone who enjoyed any of the Conjuring or Annabelle movies will not want to miss this one. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe revolutionized the superhero and action movie industry, this Conjuring franchise seems destined to change the horror movie industry, and The Nun may be their most important leap yet.

The Nun takes place before any of the other movies in the Conjuring franchise, even before Annabelle: Creation, which already went back a while on the timeline. Whereas Annabelle: Creation took place in 1955, The Nun takes place three years earlier in 1952. Considering how close these two movies are on the timeline, it's safe to say that The Nun will have some direct tie-ins to the rest of the franchise, even potentially helping set up more details about how Annabelle was created outside of what we saw last year, or at least the movie may establish a connection between the two. Here is the official synopsis for The Nun.

"When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order's unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in The Conjuring 2, as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned."

Based on the synopsis and the looks of the two trailers that have been released so far, The Nun may be the most unique addition to the franchise yet. While each movie in the Conjuring and Annabelle series has been fairly different from one another, the entire plot of The Nun takes a radical turn from the previous haunting narratives we've seen in the past. Perhaps The Nun will stand out as the best addition to the franchise yet and help set up more unique movies from the series down the road.

The Nun is directed by Corin Hardy and stars Oscar nominee Demian Bichir, along with Taissa Farmiga and Jonas Bloquet. You can watch the latest trailer from Warner Bros Pictures for yourself below, and be sure to see the movie for yourself when The Nun hits theaters on September 7th, 2018.
