Paramount+ recently announced that a miniseries about the making of The Godfather will come to the streaming service in April. The upcoming tv show, titled The Offer, will include multiple hours of new content. The central perspective for the upcoming limited series will focus around the two-time Oscar-winning producer Albert S. Rudy, who is being played by Miles Teller (Whiplash, Top Gun: Maverick). In addition to being one of the key players on screen, the real life Rudy serves as a producer for the show.
Instead of the entire series premiering at once, it will air in different sections over a few weeks. The schedule is similar to the method used by other streaming services, such as Disney+ and HBO Max. The show's first three episodes will debut on April 28. Later, the remaining seven episodes will arrive weekly, one at a time. Each episode will come to viewers on a Thursday. Consumers who live in Canada, Latin America, the Nordics, and Australia can watch the series on the same day.
The Godfather was nominated for an astounding eleven Academy Awards and is widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made. The motion picture won three Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Many consider The Godfather to be of higher quality than the book it was based upon. Several of the most acclaimed actors of all time were in the movie, including Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, James Caan, and Robert Duvall. The motion picture's plot is about the rise of Michael Corleone in the mob world after his father is nearly killed in a hit. In real life, the depictions of what it is like to be involved with the mob were so realistic, that mobsters praised the big screen project. Michael's character development led him to be considered one of the best characters in fiction.
Two years after The Godfather's 1972 premiere, a sequel arrived that some consider to be even better than the first title. The Godfather: Part II featured dual storylines centered around two members of the Corleone family. That project helped launch the career of Robert De Niro, who played a younger version of Vito Corleone. One of the timelines takes place in the past, while the other takes place in the present. Like the first title, the sequel is regarded as one of the greatest films of all time. Many of the original's characters and scenes are still satirized, further cementing its legacy. The Offer's title makes reference to an iconic line from the first film. Said quote was uttered by Marlon Brando's Vito Corleone, which was "I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse."
The miniseries was created and written by Michael Tolkien, who also wrote the drama Changing Lanes, the sci-fi disaster project Deep Impact, and the Showtime TV show Ray Donovan. Nikki Toscano of Bates Motel fame works as a co-writer and showrunner for the upcoming series. Dexter Fletcher, a two-time BAFTA nominee who worked on the Elton John biopic Rocketman, is directing the show's first three episodes.
The Offer comes to Paramount+ on April 28.
