The cast of The Old Guard 2 are back on set and ready to bring the characters of Greg Rucka’s comic book to life once again. Netflix’s Charlize Theron-led superhero movie was a hit in 2020, enough so that the crew are back together again for a sequel, and a new set photo has shown the gang back together before the action gets underway. Along with Theron, the cast includes KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Veronica Ngo, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and one of the only major changes to the production is Victoria Mahoney taking over directorial duties from Gina Prince-Bythewood.

Just as she did while working on Fast X, Theron has been one of the first to share behind the scenes photos from the set of the movie. In the two images, which she captioned “Let’s go to work”, the star is seen with co-stars Layne, Kenzari, Ejiofor and Marinelli as well as newcomer Henry Golding and director Mahoney. While they seem to be having plenty of laughs in the shots, when it comes to the movie things will get a little more serious in the continuation of the sci-fi thriller’s sequel.

The Old Guard 2 features a story by Rucka, and is thought to be based on the second graphic novel in the series, The Old Guard: Force Multiplied. While this should make sure that fans are in for more of the same storytelling and action sequences that made the first movie such a success two years ago. Having gained mostly positive reviews the first time around, Theron and co will be looking to connect to audiences again with the second outing.

Despite not being present in the photos shared by Theron, Uma Thurman recently joined the sequel in an undisclosed role. Having appeared in her fair share of action movies, such as Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill movies, Thurman will be able to hold her own against the rest of the cast when it comes to set pieces and physical sparring. The movie marks the first time that Theron and Thurman have appeared together in a movie, and with rumors that Thurman will be playing a villain in the movie, their first appearance could get pretty rough between them.

With The Old Guard 2 only going into production now, the film will not be arriving on Netflix until later in 2023. However, the movie is just one of the projects Theron has on her horizon. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has just arrived on Disney+, featuring the star’s MCU debut as Clea, a role that she will be playing again in that movie’s inevitable sequel, has been announced for Atomic Blonde 2, and she is also reprising her role as Cipher in the final two Fast and Furious movies. While Theron has proven her acting abilities in the past with movies like Monster, her recent work has seen her having the time of her life as an action heroine, and that is something that seems to be continuing in her near future.
