In a story from Variety, MGM has hired writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (Saw 3D) to write a feature based on The Outer Limits that aired on ABC from 1963-65.

This deal will net the writers a payday in the mid-six figures.

MGM has been in production limbo for most of the past year. It received a sixth extension this past July on debt payments from its 140 creditors. Around that same time as this latest extension, MGM paid Melton and Dunstan for a feature Outer Limits script based on their take on the material. It is due in October.

The writers say that the work commenced in mid-July but MGM disputes that. A spokesperson for MGM says that the writers were paid just weeks ago, but they insist that the duo was hired long before the studio's current financial woes began to grow.

Jonathan Shestack (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past) is producing.
