The Good

Strong DVD transfers.

The Bad

No Extras. The Partridge Family - The Complete Third Season continues the adventures of America's most soulful family. Featuring Shirley Jones, David Cassidy, Susan Dey, Danny Bonaduce, Dave Madden and all the others, this show hilariously makes pop culture from the past look very present day. Whether we are seeing these characters fall in love, get in trouble or fail classes there is never a lack of fun filled moments on this richly layered show.

Some people might look at The Patridge Family - The Complete Third Season and not get what is so impressive about it, but for those who remember (and those who care now) this show is one for the ages.

Video

Full Screen - 1.33:1. The DVD transfers on this release were really quite good. They have a crispness to them that really shows Sony's commitment to the TV on DVD market. I am not saying that Blu-ray enthusiasts will get on board, chances are they have never even heard of this show, but dollar for dollar everything is where it should be here.

Audio

Dolby Digital. The audio on this release was really good and considering the musical component to this show I am not surprised. While nothing too amazing can really be said to be happening here, there is a solidness to how everything sounds that really raises this release's game.

Package

This multi-purple colored slipcase features the family in question on this front cover. The back gives us another cast shot, a well written description of what this show contains, and technical specs. The 3 discs making up this set are stored in 2 slim cases which gives owners more artwork from the show.

Final Word

While I can't say that I really followed this show that much when I first heard about it (it always seemed like a poor man's version of The Brady Bunch), I really have come to enjoy it here. The performances and storylines are always engaging, and there is something groovy about seeing these characters get into various predicaments and then always finding a way out of them. Sure this show is has aged and in some ways it doesn't hold up, but for all it's shortcomings I still find the proceedings quite timeless.
