Fox 2000 and Scott Free have just purchased Jordan Ainsley's vampire book trilogy for a film adaptation. According to Variety, the first film will be based on Ainsley's The Passage.

At this point, Ainsley's trilogy only consists of a four hundred page partial manuscript and an outline. The plot finds terminally ill cancer patients becoming better after a South African bat bites them on the neck. The African government decides to run tests to see if the venom can cure any other diseases, but a vampire plague breaks out instead.

Ridley Scott was originally attached as a director, but it is unclear if he will actually be getting behind the camera for this one. He may only produce. The first installment of the book will be released in the summer of 2009. There was no word on when the actual film would go into production.
