The Predator is currently undergoing reshoots, with a teaser trailer set to drop online soon. Director Shane Black, who starred in the original Predator, has been hard at work on the long-awaited sequel for quite some time. Fox recently delayed the release of the movie, which was supposed to come out in August but has been moved to September, which was in part to accommodate these reshoots. Now, writer Fred Dekker reveals that the reshoots are underway, while also promising that the teaser trailer is just around the corner.
Fred Dekker took to his personal Facebook page to share this update on the status of The Predator. The writer posted a photo of a rather ominous fence with some warning signs on it that reveals a government site. Dekker, as one might expect, says that he can't tell us what lies beyond that fence, but he does tease that this sequel is going to have a pretty high body count, which is probably what fans want from a new Predator movie. Here's what he had to say.
"Hello, all. Currently in Vancouver shooting some touch-ups for our little movie. I can't tell you what's beyond this fence... except to say the body count is alarming. The hunt begins September 14, 2018."
He chimed in with a comment on his post adding, "And yes, a teaser trailer will be coming soon." Reshoots are very regular practice these days for big studio movies and shouldn't necessarily be cause for concern. But situations vary. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had to undergo very significant reshoots, but that movie ultimately turned out quite good. As for The Predator? There were rumored reports of test screenings that didn't go over so well and studios often use these test screenings to adjust the movie. It's likely that Shane Black is going to address some of those concerns in these reshoots.
Olivia Munn, Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Edward James Olmos, Alfie Allen and Yvonne Strahovski star in The Predator. While this mostly serves as a reboot of the franchise, Jake Busey will be playing the son of his father Gary Busey's Predator 2 character in this movie, providing some connective tissue to the rest of the franchise. Sadly, as far as we know, Arnold Schwarzenegger won't be making a cameo, unless Shane Black somehow manages to sneak him in during these reshoots.
It's been quite some time since we've seen a good Predator movie. Many would argue there hasn't been a downright good once since the original, but it's a franchise with a lot of potential. We just need someone to bring that potential to the big screen. Shane Black is a great director and maybe he can breathe some new life into it with The Predator. Fingers crossed.
