The Princess Bride is a one-of-a-kind film that revolves around the lives of Westley and Buttercup, two lovers who have the odds stacked against them. The film features giants, pirates, horrifying shrieking eels, and even miracles, giving audiences a taste of everything for a well-rounded experience for all to enjoy. Though the film performed moderately at the box office during its initial release, it was subject to critical acclaim and has since gained status as a cult classic for its unique content and its magnificent performances from the cast.

Cary Elwes (Westley)

Starring as the main hero Westley who overcomes all odds for the woman he loves, Cary Elwes made a name for himself in The Princess Bride. Elwes went on to star in a number of significant films including Glory, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Bram Stoker's Dracula, and even the first installation of the Saw franchise. Elwes' career continued to flourish over the years and shows no sign of slowing down. Most recently, the actor starred in The Unholy and continues to take on new roles, expecting to make appearances in Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Thanks to his magnificent performance in The Princess Bride, his acting skills continue to wow us, even into his golden years.

Robin Wright (Buttercup)

Robin Wright is one of the most recognizable faces from The Princess Bride. Playing the role of the lonely Buttercup who just wants to ride her horses and be with Westley, Wright's performance in the film led her to great success. The actress went on to star in the award-winning Forrest Gump, Message in a Bottle, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and so many more films that have made her a household name in Hollywood. She even earned herself a Golden Globe for Best Actress in 2013 for her performance as Claire Underwood in the hit Netflix series House of Cards. Most recently, Wright has seemingly joined the DCEU starring in Justice League and Wonder Woman 1984 as General Antiope.

Wallace Shawn (Vizzini)

With a recognizable lisp and a very distinct voice, Wallace Shawn plays the role of the conniving Vizzini who was responsible for kidnapping Buttercup in order to start a war to make himself money. Aside from his iconic role in The Princess Bride, Shawn has become known for his performance as Rex, the easily frightened T-Rex in the Toy Story franchise. Shawn's work extends into television, with his most recent TV work being on Young Sheldon. The actor seems to continue to take on work, starring most recently in Rifkin's Festival and The Addams Family 2. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Wallace Shawn's career.

Mandy Patinkin (Inigo Montoya)

One of the lesser known names on this list is Mandy Patinkin, who plays the role of the highly quotable Inigo Montoya. Although Patinkin has starred in a number of films and TV series since The Princess Bride, he is most known for his Broadway performances, having received a total of three Tony nominations, one of which he won for Evita, before The Princess Bride. One of Patinkin's most known roles since The Princess Bride is that of Jason Gideon in the hit series Criminal Minds in which he starred for a total three seasons. Patinkin's career continues to thrive, with his most recent roles being in the Disney film Onward and season five of The Good Fight.

André the Giant (Fezzik)

As 7ft 4 in and weighing over 500lbs, this gentle giant was a fan-favorite among many. Fezzik, portrayed by André the Giant, was a very lovable character who was slow-witted and preferred cracking jokes and making people smile to causing harm to anyone. André was a wrestler who was referred to as the 'eighth wonder of the world' thanks to his gigantism. Unfortunately, his gigantism placed excess strain on his body, which led to his death in 1993 at the age of 46. The Princess Bride was one of André's last appearances on screen aside from starring in Trading Mom, which was released after his death.

Chris Sarandon (Prince Humperdinck)

Chris Sarandon, from whom Susan Sarandon got her name, stars as the main antagonist in the film Prince Humperdinck, who whisks Buttercup away in the hopes of making her his Queen. He also is responsible for Westley being tortured for trying to take Buttercup from him, despite Buttercup's willingness to be with Westley. Sarandon went on to star in a number of films, including voicing Jack Skellington in The Nightmare Before Christmas. Saradon's career has somewhat slowed down over the years, with his most recent film being I Smile Back in 2015. While it's unclear whether Saradon's best days are behind him or if he will make a comeback, he will always be remembered as Prince Humperdinck in The Princess Bride.

Billy Crystal (Miracle Max)

The most comedic character in the entire film is Miracle Max, portrayed by Billy Crystal. Inigo and Fezzik visit Miracle Max to help bring Westley back to life. Max tells Inigo and Fezzik that Westley is not completely dead, but that he is mostly dead, which means there is hope for him to live again. Crystal's career has been long and prosperous. Since The Princess Bride, Crystal has continued to make himself known and heard through films like When Harry Met Sally and the Monsters Inc. franchise. His long line of work continues to grow and has earned him six Primetime Emmy Awards, a Tony Award, and a Mark Twain Prize for Humor. Crystal's most recent work is Here Today, a film which he starred in, directed, wrote, and produced. The actor shows no signs of slowing down, continuing to share his comedic genius with the world.
