Just weeks after we reported that The Expendables 3 director Patrick Hughes is in talks to direct The Raid, the filmmaker has been confirmed to take the helm of this English-language remake.

Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace, Run All Night) is writing the screenplay, based on Gareth Evans' 2012 action epic The Raid: Redemption. The original, which starred Iko Uwais and Joe Taslim, followed a group of Jakarta cops who stage a raid on a 30-story building filled with deadly criminals.

While this new version is expected to have a similar story line, it isn't known where the story will take place. The Raid: Redemption also spawned the upcoming sequel The Raid 2, also directed by Gareth Evans, arriving in theaters March 28. Sony picked up the remake rights in November 2011, following The Raid: Redemption's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

XYZ Films, which produced both The Raid: Redemption and The Raid 2, is behind the remake. No actors have been attached at this time, but with the director now confirmed, it should only be a matter of time before cast members start falling in place.
