The first reactions to The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power have now emerged, and you will be happy to hear that they are hugely positive. Several critics were given the chance to view the first few episodes of the Lord of the Rings prequel series, and many have heaped praise on Amazon’s approach to Middle-earth.

The word that rears its head in most of these early reactions is “cinematic,” with the majority of lucky viewers commending the epic scope and silver screen nature of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

So, while many have had their doubts regarding what Amazon plans to do with the world of J.R.R. Tolkien in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power since it was first announced, it certainly sounds like the series is a worthy exploration of the Second Age of Middle-Earth. Here’s hoping that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be as well received by audiences when it hits Prime Video in a few weeks' time.

Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth's history. This epic drama will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil on Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will feature a huge ensemble cast led by Morfydd Clark as younger, brasher, more action-oriented version of the elf queen Galadriel. The series will feature earlier versions of several familiar characters from the world of Lord of the Rings, as well as introduce a lot of new ones. In addition to Clark, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power stars Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Owain Arthur as Prince Durin, Sophia Nomvete as Princess Disa, Ismael Cruz Córdova as Arondir, Lenny Henry as Sadoc Burrows, Markella Kavenagh as Elanor "Nori" Brandyfoot, Sara Zwangobani as Marigold Brandyfoot, Megan Richards as Poppy Proudfellow, Daniel Weyman as "The Stranger," Charles Edwards as Celebrimbor, and many, many more.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 1, 2022, with two episodes airing back-to-back. A second season has already been greenlit, with filming expected to begin in October 2022.
