The Lord of the Rings legend begins this September, with the latest trailer for the Amazon Prime prequel series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, teasing the epic majesty to come. Released by the official Prime Video YouTube channel, the new footage transports audiences back to the wonders and terrors of Middle Earth, exploring the world thousands of years before the J.R.R. Tolkien classic.

This latest trailer centers the epic story on the main players, beginning by introducing the Harfoots, the ancestors of the more familiar Hobbits who, much like Frodo Baggins, find themselves involved in a plot far beyond their simple, humble lives. The focus then shifts to Morfydd Clark as the young Galadriel, with the Saint Maud taking over from Cate Blanchett and introducing the character in her early years. A highly skilled Elven warrior, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power finds Galadriel convinced that a great evil is returning to Middle-earth.

Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth's history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

The Rings of Power Promises to Be Just as Epic as The Lord of the Rings

The sheer scale on display in this newly released trailer is truly a sight to behold, as Amazon endeavors to bring true cinematic awe to the small screen. Director J. A. Bayona has teased their desire to bring something entirely new to the fantasy genre saying, "The Rings Of Power is not television. It's a new form we're creating here." While it is not quite clear what exactly that means, it does seem to have worked, with early reactions from die-hard Lord of the Rings fans praising Amazon's handling of the treasured material.

Starring Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Míriel, Maxim Baldry as Isildur, Owain Arthur as Dwarf Prince Durin IV, Nazanin Boniadi as Bronwyn, Ismael Cruz Córdova as Arondir, Sophia Nomvete as Dwarf Princess Disa, Charlie Vickers as Halbrand, Charles Edwards as Celebrimbor, and Benjamin Walker as Gil-galad, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 2, 2022. A second season is already in development.
