J.J. Abrams, going against the grain a bit, has hinted that a fan-favorite Clone Wars character could be making an appearance in The Rise of Skywalker. Abrams has historically been very tight-lipped with his projects and doesn't like to reveal too much and would rather let moviegoers experience things for themselves. However, he may have let something very significant slip recently.

Warning: possible spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Granted, nothing has been confirmed yet, but if this little hint provided by J.J. Abrams, the director and co-writer of the movie, turns out to be true, this is quite the reveal. That aside, Abrams was recently doing an interview and asked the interviewer who their favorite Star Wars character is. The interviewer responded by saying Ahsoka Tano, who fans will know from The Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows. That's when Abrams dropped a pretty big hint. Here's what he had to say.

"Hmmm, Ahsoka, huh? Well then you'll probably want to watch closely during The Rise of Skywalker."

J.J. Abrams, understandably, declined to comment further, so that's all we have to go on for now. That said, if this hint does lead to Ahsoka Tano appearing in Episode IX, it would be huge. The character started as the apprentice of Anakin Skywalker and, to say the least, she wasn't well-received by fans. However, over the years, as the character developed, the conversation around Ahsoka changed and she's become one of the most beloved characters outside of the original trilogy. Yet, she's never appeared in live-action. At least not yet.

Though, based on these new comments, that seems poised to change. The question is, how might Ahsoka fit into the equation? We know at the end of The Last Jedi, the Resistance was in desperate need of allies, as their forces were decimated. If Ahsoka is still alive and well, and we have every reason to think she is, thanks to the way Rebels ended, then she could very well fit the bill. Plus, eagle-eyed fans have spotted the Ghost, the ship from Rebels, in the trailer for the movie. Could it be that Ahsoka is piloting the ship into battle?

That's purely speculative, but it's easy to see how she could fit into the equation, and it would genuinely make sense to have her as part of the battle against the First Order. For fans, it could also pave the way for a larger role for her on screen in the future. Then again, who knows? Maybe it will just be a little Easter egg or a mention, rather than a full-blow appearance. Whatever the case, it seems fans of Ahsoka would do well to keep their eyes peeled.
