Lucasfilm and Disney have dropped a new clip for The Rise of Skywalker. However, this clip isn't for everybody. If you're worried about potential spoilers, now might be a good time to stop reading. Ever since we hit the two-week mark, the studio has been flooding the market with footage in new TV spots, often giving a lot away. However, J.J. Abrams does not seem too concerned at this point in the game, proving he has a lot more tricks up his sleeve than originally thought. There are possible SPOILERS for The Rise of Skywalker below, so read ahead at your own risk.
Emperor Palpatine is back in The Rise of Skywalker. We already knew that since we have heard his voice several times before. We still have yet to see him, but he will be fully revealed next week. With that being said, Palpatine is back in a major way with the latest clip from the movie and he's talking to Kylo Ren in what is believed to be from the opening moments of the movie. Kylo Ren arrives on the never-before-seen planet Exogol, where it is believed he will come face-to-face with Emperor Palpatine in his life-support chair. We don't see Palpatine here, in the flesh. But he goes on to reveal that he has been every voice inside Kylo Ren's head, which includes Supreme Leader Snoke and even Darth Vader. There's even a callback to The Phantom Menace score.
It appears that J.J. Abrams may have gotten James Earl Jones to return for some dialogue in The Rise of Skywalker. When Palpatine drops his bomb of information on Kylo Ren, we hear what appears to be new Darth Vader dialogue, along with Snoke. This is arguably the most powerful footage that Lucasfilm has released thus far. For Star Wars fans looking for the dark and gritty scenes, it has been delivered and it's chilling. Emperor Palpatine has been behind everything in the sequel trilogy. Also, look close, and you will see massive looming statues inside the fortess on Exogol that appear to be other Sith Lords.
For fans looking for Snoke's backstory, we may not get it in The Rise of Skywalker, but it appears that Emperor Palpatine was the one behind it all. The new clip basically states that he has been the voice urging Kylo Ren to go on and ultimately, the one to bring Ren and Rey together, which has been teased in previous TV spots and trailers. This is the most that we've heard from the iconic villain and there is a lot to take in as he shares those words with Kylo Ren. But, like all good promotional material, this leaves more questions than answers and it certainly leaves one wanting more.
The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters next week and puts an end to the Skywalker Saga. J.J. Abrams has been tasked with ending it all and he is happy with the story that he was able to craft. He believes Star Wars fans are going to be into what he has done to finish off a story that was started over 40 years ago. For fans that were on the fence about seeing the movie, this new clip may be the one that gets them into theaters. You can see the clip below, thanks to the official Star Wars Facebook page.
