Now that The Rise of Skywalker has hit cinemas, both critics, audiences and everyone in between has a lot to say about director J.J. Abrams conclusion to the Skywalker saga. One such outspoken fan base is the Reylo affiliates, that is those who have wanted our hero Rey and the torn villain Kylo Ren to fall into each other's arms, smooch up a storm, and fall in love.

Well, despite sort of getting what they wanted all along, the Reylo gang are not happy with how it ended up and have taken to social media to air their frustrations and vent their very strong feelings.

"They could have had the most epic love story in their hands. One that's so uplifting and lasts several generations. Far greater than Han and Leia. A love story to overshadow all. Just one more step and they would have done it. But they were too much of a coward to see it through."

This particular fan believes that the love story between Rey Skywalker and Ben Solo could have eclipsed even that of Star Wars staples Han and Leia, and even accused the filmmakers of being cowardly in their failure to achieve such an impossible feat. Despite this claim seeming rather ridiculous, they are far from the only member of the Reylo fan base who think Abrams and crew failed to stick the romantic landing.

"The movie ended with the kiss. They're happy and have each other. All scenes after that were deleted scenes accidentally edited in. I said what I said. #reylo #KyloandRey."

"Reylo is an actual canon soulmate couple and THEY DID NOT GET A HAPPY ENDING W T F?"

Though some have found some semblance of peace with Reylo now being officially canon, others have been left feeling empty with how the love story was executed, with some even preferring that they had not bothered.

"People keep saying 'we won, but at what cost?' Guys we won nothing, they literally put that scene there and gave us hope for a sec and then took it away from us. I would rather have Ben Solo being alive than reylo and that scene proved nothing since we knew they loved each other."

"Funny how Reylos took the most shit for not being real fans and only caring about the romance lol. If we only cared about being right/canon Reylo we'd all be celebrating. Instead we're mourning both deep character loss and also what feels like the destruction of the entire saga."

"Because the overall story was executed so poorly that even though we got "everything we wanted" we really didn't."

Some of the more over-excited fan base members even believe that The Rise of Skywalker should have been written by Reylos, justifying that they and only they could truly do justice to not only Rey and Kylo Ren but to all of the characters.

"Can you imagine how good this movie would be if Reylos wrote the script. We love all those characters. WE WOULD DO JUSTICE TO ALL OF THEM!"

Finally, we come to the more humorous takes wherein fans have added the theme from Titanic to footage of Rey and Kylo Ren together, as well as using emotional stills from Adam Driver's new romantic drama Marriage Story to portray their pain.

"So many ships use my heart will go on when they win but the fact that this song actually fits with reylo."

Whatever your feelings on Reylo, we can all agree that The Rise of Skywalker has brought the saga to a dramatic end. This comes from Star Wars fans on Twitter.
