The Sandman star Jenna Coleman has confirmed the return of Johanna Constantine in the now-confirmed second season. Taking to social media, Coleman shared an image of Constantine and Tom Sturridge's Morpheus alongside the caption, “To come…. #TheSandman returns.” You can check out Coleman’s post below.

Best recognized for roles in the likes of Doctor Who and The Serpent, Jenna Coleman stars in The Sandman as the occult detective Johanna Constantine. Much like The Sandman source material, the Netflix adaptation finds the actress portraying two versions of the character across time, with Coleman playing both the eighteenth-century ancestor Lady Johanna Constantine and the present-day Johanna.

While she does not reveal any details of the character’s return, just knowing that Johanna Constantine will be back is surely enough to tide The Sandman fans over for now.

Released earlier this year to high viewership and rave reviews, The Sandman brings seminal author Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel to the screen for the first time, introducing another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever.

Audiences have been forced to wait patiently for far too long for the confirmation of The Sandman’s renewal. Thankfully, all that patience has now paid off, with Netflix greenlighting The Sandman Season 2 earlier this week. ““The dream continues. [The Sandman] will return with new episodes based on multiple volumes of the Neil Gaiman graphic novel to explore even more stories of the Endless,” DC Comics said in a now deleted tweet.

The Sandman creator Neil Gaiman has since confirmed the news saying, "The rumours are true. Netflix is thrilled that so many of you have been watching Sandman, and the thing we were all hoping would happen... has indeed happened..."

Jenna Coleman’s portrayal of Constantine has proven to be very popular, not least with The Sandman writer and creator Neil Gaiman, who has stated that he would love to see this iteration of the character get her own spinoff. "Anybody who has seen Sandman Episode 3 has sidled over to us at some point or other in the last six months and said, 'Do you think there's any possibility that we could do a Johanna Constantine show with Jenna Coleman?' And, oh my God, she's a star and you just want to see her going through battling demons and destroying other people's lives. So that's in there, too. We can keep going on this for a long time to come," he said.

Starring an ensemble cast that includes Tom Sturridge as Morpheus AKA Dream, Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Patton Oswalt as Matthew the Raven, Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, and David Thewlis as John Dee, the first season of The Sandman is now available to stream on Netflix.
