Another familiar face has been locked in for an upcoming series at Disney+ that will serve as a continuation of The Santa Clause movies. Previously, it was reported that Tim Allen would be back as Scott Calvin, aka Santa himself, in the new series. Now, Variety reports that Elizabeth Mitchell, who played Scott's wife in The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, will return as Carol Calvin (aka Mrs. Claus) in the new series as well.

In the Disney+ series, "Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole."

The project reunites Allen with Jack Burditt, the creator of Allen's sitcom Last Man Standing. Burditt is executive producing and serving as showrunner of The Santa Clause series. Allen will also executive produce with Kevin Hench, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina. The Disney series will be produced by 20th Television.

In recent years, Mitchell was featured on the sci-fi series The Expanse which just concluded with its sixth and final season on Prime Video earlier this month. She is also well-known for her role as Juliet in the ABC series Lost. Mitchell has also starred in movies like Running Scared and The Purge: Election Year, with more roles on the small screen including Outer Banks, Once Upon a Time, and V.

"Of course," Mitchell said in 2019 when asked if she'd be up for revisiting The Santa Clause series, per ET. "I mean, those movies are a joy to make. Making people happy, I mean, what a gift."

No other cast members are confirmed for The Santa Clause series, but with two big stars already on board, there's a good chance we will see some other favorites. One notable absence in The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause was David Krumholtz, who played the elf Bernard in the first two movies. Perhaps he could be given another opportunity to return as Bernard, as he recently revealed the real reason why he didn't come back for The Escape Clause.

"Bernard was in the third movie. They sent me the script, I had a pretty significant role," Krumholtz explained to Vulture. "We did work out the schedule, which was going to be hellish on me, but I was going to make it work. And it was all set to go. But I would say that the character got devalued a little bit and I couldn’t in good conscience do it.”

Production is set to begin in March, but Disney+ has not yet set an official release date for The Santa Clause series. You can watch the original movies on the streaming service in the meantime.
