Thaddeus O'Sullivan will direct The Secret Scripture for stars Jessica Chastain and Vanessa Redgrave.

The story follows a 100-year-old woman who has been locked away in a mental institution since WWII. A psychiatrist decides to piece together the woman's past, and discovers her diary hidden under the floorboards in her bedroom.

Jessica Chastain and Vanessa Redgrave will alternate between the young and old versions of the woman, in this drama that deals with the scars left on Presbyterian women during Ireland's own civil war, and the harsh abuse this particular woman faced at the hands of an enraged priest.

My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown producer Noel Pearson is attached to the project, working from a script adapted from the popular Sebastian Barry novel. Voltage Pictures, the company behind this year's Oscar nominee in multiple categories Dallas Buyers Club, is in negotiations to distribute in the States.

Thaddeus O'Sullivan is an Irish director know for his work on the TV movie Into the Storm starring Brendan Gleeson as Winston Churchill. It was nominated for 12 Emmies, winning two, and it was nominated for two Golden Globe awards in 2010. He also directed 2003's The Heart of Me.
