If you have been on social media sometime in the last few years, you have probably already heard of a book titled The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Written by Taylor Jenkins Reid, the novel quickly became a fan favorite, making thousands of readers hope for a screen adaptation. Well, recently, they finally got good news! To fans' delight, Netflix announced via Instagram that the company was taking the story to the streaming service. With Netflix being an Oscar-winning film producer and an Emmy-winning series producer, it's impossible not to have high expectations for The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo's adaptation.

Initially, the adaptation rights were picked by Fox 21 Television Studios in 2019 to be adapted into a Freeform series. The author, Taylor Jenkins Reid, was involved with the production, acting as a screenwriter, along with producers Jennifer Beals and Ilene Chaiken, former The L Word actress and producer, respectively. But the agreement was called off in 2021 when Reid said in an interview that the rights were no longer Freeform's but that she "felt really good with the direction that it's [the book adaptation] going in."

Less than a year later, Netflix announced that the company had acquired the rights to the adaptation and that the book would be adapted into a film with Liz Tigelaar – known for Brothers & Sisters, Once Upon a Time, Revenge, and Bates Motel and for adapting and creating Hulu's Little Fires Everywhere – writing and Margaret Chernin executive producing. It has not been announced how or if Taylor Jenkins Reid will be involved in Netflix's plans yet.

The novel isn't the first Reid title that will be adapted, as Daisy Jones & The Six was recently announced. The novel tells the story of a '70s rock band and will be coming soon to Amazon, with Reese Witherspoon as a producer and Sam Caiflin and Riley Keough in the main roles.

So let's take a look at what we know so far about the upcoming The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo adaptation!

There is no cast confirmed yet, but obviously, there has been some fan casts all over social media. Sofia Vergara is a fan favorite to interpret Evelyn, with Ana de Armas being a runner to the part too. At the same time, Oscar winner Jessica Chastain and Amy Adams are being fan cast as Celia St. James, one of the most important characters in the story.

But there's the possibility of multiple actresses being cast for the same part: Evelyn Hugo is a 79-year-old woman in the book, but we will see her life since she was 14 years, which gives the opportunity for actresses to share the lead and play the already iconic character. Maybe a younger and unknown actress to be the younger Evelyn and an already established star to be the older Evelyn can be a good choice for it.

We also don't have a name for who will direct the movie. But a woman directing a film about a woman will certainly be a good choice. If we can dream high, Sofia Coppola and Céline Sciamma are perfect when they decide to portray the conflicts of being a woman. There's no doubt they would be ideal for directing The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
