Maggie Simpson takes center stage of The Simpsons’ latest short, which takes aim at the Star Wars franchise. Releasing on May 4th – when else – the Springfield family will be celebrating the Lucasfilm franchise in their own way in a brand-new release entitled Rogue Not Quite One. Ahead of the short’s debut, a poster has been shared by Disney which puts Maggie in a battle with TIE fighters.

The Simpsons has never been too far away from parodying movies and TV shows in some of their regular episodes, and having previously ventured into Star Wars territory with The Force Awakens from Its Nap in 2021, it seems unsurprising that they are returning for more cross-over fun again. With their last Star Wars themed short also featuring Homer and Marie’s youngest daughter Maggie, it seems that his probably won’t be the last time we see her interacting with some of Lucasfilm’s best known characters. For this short, the synopsis reads:

"On their way to daycare, Homer loses track of Maggie who hops in Grogu’s hovering pram for a hyperspace-hopping adventure across the galaxy. Facing a squadron of Imperial TIE fighters, Maggie brings the battle to Springfield in this epic short celebrating all things Star Wars."

While there is no more information available, it is only two days until the new short arrives on Disney+, so it is not too long before Star Wars fans can groan at the way their beloved franchise is being parodied yet again, while Simpsons fans can continue to lap up the jokes and general gimmicky nature of the new addition to the Springfield-based series.

When it comes to Star Wars parodies, there are many, with Seth MacFarlane’s trilogy of extended Family Guy episodes being one of the most memorable for being so unsubtle about it – for the time it was released anyway before they became part of the Disney family. However, The Simpsons is no stranger to delivering their own collection of parodies, particularly the horror-tinged Halloween episodes.

Among the extensive list of properties that The Simpsons have used over the last two decades are Dracula, The Shining(or The Shinning as called by Groundskeeper Willie as he mentions the dreaded copyright laws), I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Lost Boys and The Exorcist to name but a few.

One thing that the advent of Disney+ has brought to the Walt Disney Company is the ability to put out pretty much whatever they want in terms to single episodes and specials. While in the past these would have been tacked onto a theatrical release or become an extra on Disc 2 of a Blu-ray set, they can now be put out on Disney+ whenever there is an appropriate time for them. This has included a number of shorts from Toy Story, Frozen, Marvel and it is likely that this kind of quick one-shot is not about to stop anytime soon.

You can see Rogue Not Quite One on Disney+ from May 4.
