Columbia Pictures has released a brand new photo from The Smurfs, which will arrive in theaters nationwide on August 3, 2011. Take a look at the image below, which shows Papa Smurf, Smurfette and others exploring New York City's Central Park:

The Smurfs step into the real world for the first time{59} For me, there was a fair amount of that. I had a very specific take on a couple of ways I thought Gargamel could be funny throughout the script. They liked those ideas, so I sat with the writers for awhile and tried to infuse that, particularly with the married relationship between Gargamel and Azreal. I wanted them to be like an old married couple who were bickering a lot. Then it was more about fitting the voice I had.

Audiences everywhere are in for a Smurfy good time as the Smurfs make their first 3D trip to the big screen. When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into ours - in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.
