Fox Television has acquired The Spectre, a new TV pilot based on the DC Comics title created by Jerry Siegel and Bernard Baily.

The comic book series centers on Jim Corrigan, a former hard-nosed cop who is stuck in the afterlife. He must return to Earth to hunt down criminals on behalf of a mysterious entity known only as "The Voice."

The character first appeared in the February 1940 edition of More Fun Comics and was featured in the animated short DC Showcase: The Spectre, which was attached to the DVD release Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths.

Brandon Camp is writing the pilot script for The Spectre and will executive produce alongside Bill Gerber. DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television will produce the pilot.
