The Suicide Squad is easily one of the most anticipated movies of the summer. The DC film directed by James Gunn will hit theaters and begin streaming on HBO Max on August 6. However, a recent report suggests that The Suicide Squad will begin streaming earlier than other HBO Max premieres. Fans on the East coast will not have to stay up till 3 am to enjoy Gunn's latest film.

According to Collider, The Suicide Squad will be getting an "early preview" on HBO Max as the film will begin streaming on HBO Max at 7 pm ET instead of 12 am PT. Other HBO Max premieres like Wonder Woman 1984, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Space Jam: A New Legacy, stuck to the original schedule. However, viewers will be receiving an early treat as the film will debut on HBO Max alongside early Thursday night screenings. However, the movie is only available on HBO Max for those who are subscribed to the ad-free service.

Reviews thus far for The Suicide Squad have been immaculate as Gunn's film currently holds a 96% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. This is exponentially better than the 2016 Suicide Squad which still holds a 26%. The critical consensus reads as thus:

"Enlivened by writer-director James Gunn's singularly skewed vision, The Suicide Squad marks a funny, fast-paced rebound that plays to the source material's violent, anarchic strengths."

The new film serves as a reboot/sequel hybrid as it brings back previous characters, but has little to do with the 2016 film. Gunn is seeing similar success so far with his DC venture as he did with his works in the Marvel cinematic universe, Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Early reviews highlight how crazy, absurd, and gory this film is, but it still manages to have moments of heart amongst a variety of likable characters.

The Suicide Squad has an even larger cast of characters including Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, Sean Gunn as Weasel, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Nathan Fillion s TDK, Michael Rooker as Savant, and Sylvester Stallone as the voice of King Shark. The returning cast from 2016 are Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

The Suicide Squad is the first Warner Bros. home premiere to get the early access treatment. It is a highly-anticipated film so it brings up the question of if we may see the same thing happen with upcoming films like The Matrix 4 and Dune.

Like past home premieres, The Suicide Squad will only be available on HBO Max for 31 days before it goes exclusively to theaters. It will return on HBO Max and VOD after its theatrical run. While a viewing on the big screen still remains as the optimal way to view this movie, there are still those who remain hesitant about making the trek to theaters, especially with a rising surge of the delta variant of the COVID-19 virus. For those who want to watch in the comfort of their own homes, you will now have the opportunity to view it at the same time as everyone else.
