Hey there my MovieWeb friends. Happy 2011 and welcome to the year's first installment of The Sunday Funnies after a little break over the holidays. There is a lot to get to this week, so lets get started with a look at the NBC comedy 30 Rock and its unique intro in Japan:
I've always thought that NBC's 30 Rock has one of the coolest and catchiest intros on TV, but it seems Japanese programmers have managed to up the ante even more. SplitSider discovered the Japanese intro sequence to 30 Rock, which makes it seem even more outrageous than the show really is. Take a look at this bizarre intro below:
It seems like they try to make the show a lot sexier than it really is too, with the butt close-up at the beginning and more sultry looks of Tina Fey. If that's what they were really trying to do, then why didn't they include more of the luscious Jane Krakowski? Crazy.
We're no stranger to weird back tattoos here at The Sunday Funnies, with the first edition of the Funnies featuring a dude obsessed with Avatar covering his back with Pandora tattoos. Now The Daily Mail has the story of a 49-year-old woman from Reading U.K. who dropped 2,000 pounds on a crazy, elaborate and detailed Twilight back tattoo. Take a look at some of these photos of the tattoo work below:
It seems Twilight helped Cathy Ward drop some real pounds, as in body weight, as well. The woman, who works at a supermarket, dropped over 14 dress sizes in just six months, using the Twilight as inspiration. She plans to spend another 2,000 pounds, the currency, to cover her entire torso in Twilight tats. Here's what she told the site:
There are still a few bits to do. I am going to get my arms done before my 50th birthday in summer. I love Robert Pattinson. I want to tone up so I can get his character Edward Cullen on my stomach. The way I look at it I could be spending the money on going out drinking and eating but instead I'm spending it on something I am really passionate about."
Ward is also trying to meet the cast of the series and wants to attend the premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1:
I have approached the fan club and I am trying to get them to let me go to the premiere of the fourth film Breaking Dawn. That would be a dream come true."
I wonder if she'll get little shots of Edward and Bella on her face as well. That would even make Mike Tyson's face tattoo seem normal...
I'm shocked I haven't seen this on TV yet, because it's absolutely hilarious. Lipton Brisk created a new claymation commercial with Machete star Danny Trejo essentially narrating the entire movie. Check out this hilarious ad below:
It kind of reminds me of Isaiah Mustafa's fast-paced Old Spice ads, but with a claymation Danny Trejo literally walking through the entire movie. Obviously this was timed for the Blu-ray and DVD release, which hit shelves on January 4, and I sincerely hope Lipton Brisk keeps this campaign moving with more stars describing their movies in claymation. Bravo, Lipton Brisk! Maybe I'll even start drinking your product now...
You've got to love an actor who knows how to make fun of himself, and James Van Der Beek has done so in a wonderful way. After the "Sad Dawson" animated icon became such a big hit on the Internet, the actor teamed with Funny or Die for JamesVanDerMemes.com. Take a look at a hilarious video promoting the website below:
The great thing is this website actually does exist, and it actually does have tons of animated icons that you can download. Check out JamesVanDerMemes.com to see all of the hilarity for yourself, which also includes more FOD videos as well.
True Grit is one of my favorites of 2010 and young actress Hailee Steinfeld simply knocked it out of the park as Mattie Ross. While we have to wait a few weeks to see if she'll be nominated for an Academy Award (which I think she truly deserves), The Hollywood Reporter tracked down an earlier piece of work from the young actress: a 2009 commercial for KMart. Take a look at this "blingafied" ad below:
By the way, Hailee Steinfeld made her feature film debut in True Grit, after appearing as a guest star on a few TV shows and a few short film roles. It's interesting to see some of her pre-True Grit work, since it's quite clear we'll be seeing MUCH more of this young talent in the years to come.
Well, that's about all I have for this week's edition of the Sunday Funnies.
