A batch of new character posters for The Super Mario Bros. Movie provide another look at the legendary Nintendo characters and how they have been beautifully brought to life by the animation studio Illumination. The poster comes following the release of the latest trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and courtesy of Twitter with the first pair of posters putting the spotlight on the plumber brothers Mario and Luigi.

Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt will voice main character Mario (something that many fans are really not happy about), with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Charlie Day voicing Luigi. The next pair of posters show off Princess Peach, who will be played by The Queen's Gambit and The Northman star Anya Taylor-Joy and the protector of the Mushroom Kingdom, Toad, voiced by comedian Keegan-Michael Key.

Next up is Donkey Kong, who we finally got to see in action in the newly released trailer. Voiced by Pineapple Express, This Is the End, and The Fabelmans star Seth Rogen, The Super Mario Bros. Movie will reference the original video game with Mario and Kong doing battle with barrels.

Finally, we get an ominous look at the primary antagonist of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Bowser. School of Rock star Jack Black will provide the roaring voice of the video game villain and, unlike the complaints directed at Pratt’s casting as Mario, nobody is complaining about Black voicing Bowser.

From Nintendo and Illumination comes a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. The animated outing will follow a similar path to the beloved video games and finds a plumber named Mario traveling through an underground labyrinth with his brother, Luigi, and trying to save a captured princess.

While the casting of Pratt has been heavily criticized, the actor has described taking on the role as a dream come true. "So when I was a kid I lived in Lake Stevens, Washington. And there is this coin-operated laundromat near my house, and it had Super Mario Bros., the original arcade game,” Pratt said back in September last year when his casting was announced. “Oh, I loved that game. I never had a quarter, it felt like. I'd either steal them from the wishing well... that's wild. It just dawned on me right now. The quarter I stole out of the wishing well to play Super Mario Bros. has come true, that I get to be the voice of Mario. But, I clearly stole someone else's wish, so, just waiting for that row of karma dominoes to come crashing down on me."

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is scheduled for release in the United States on April 7, 2023, and in Japan on April 28.
