Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink is stepping into the horror genre, signing onto direct The Toxic Avenger remake, according to Deadline.

Steve Pink will also co-write the script with Daniel C. Mitchell. Here's what Pink had to say about the project:

"The Toxic Avenger is exactly what the country--wait, that's not big enough--what the world needs right now."

The story centers on a man named Melvin, a janitor who is constantly hassled by the jocks at his gym. One day they dump him in a vat of toxic waste, which transformed him into a hideous but hulking creature who vows to clean up the streets of New Jersey.

Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, the Troma Films owners who created the first The Toxic Avenger movie in 1984, are executive producing the remake along with Kerry Foster. Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein and Charlie Corwin are producing the remake.
