The official tally hasn't been released yet, but early indicators show that a highly-anticipated vampire sequel might have set a record from its midnight debut last night. Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting that The Twilight Saga: New Moon took in between $23 and $24 million from midnight screenings, which would be a new record if it holds true.

The mark would eclipse the $22.2 million that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince set this summer, which beat out last summer's blockbuster The Dark Knight's tally of $18.5 million from midnight screenings. The $23-$24 million gross wasn't confirmed, but the site was reporting that rival studios estimated the figure.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon opened in 3,514 theaters for midnight debuts last night and the film expands to 4,024 theaters today. We'll be sure to keep you posted on this story as soon as the official numbers are released.
