The newest season of The Umbrella Academy is set to debut in June. From Ben's seeming return to Viktor Hargreeves' debut, there are many reasons why we're excited for the upcoming season. In our exclusive interview with Jordan Claire Robbins, we learned that "tensions will arise" in season three. While Robbins was, of course, mum on the details, it's safe to say that an unorthodox superhero family is sure bring drama and chaos.
A large part of the success of The Umbrella Academy is due to the talents of its ensemble cast. Critics and audiences have reserved much praised for the performances of the actors throughout the first two seasons of the Netflix show. Considering the countless other films and TV series they've all appeared in, it makes sense. Indeed, here are other roles you might have seen the actors play.
Elliot Page
Elliot Page is one of the biggest names attached to The Umbrella Academy, and viewers will likely recognize him from his breakthrough role, which came in 2007 when he starred as the titular character in Jason Reitman’s award-winning coming-of-age comedy Juno, about an unplanned teenaged pregnancy. Page is also known for his involvement in the X-Men franchise, as well as the award-winning Inception, in which he starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. In The Umbrella Academy, he plays Viktor Hargreeves and fans are excited to see what season 3 will bring for his character.
Tom Hopper
Tom Hopper plays Luther Hargreeves in The Umbrella Academy and was previously most known for his portrayal of Billy Bones on Starz’s historical adventure series, Black Sails, which followed the adventures of Captain Flint in his life prior to Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. Hopper also previously starred in the BBC fantasy drama, Merlin, where he played Sir Percival. He also starred briefly in the HBO hit Game of Thrones as Dickon Tarly, who, per Screen Rant, was previously played by Freddie Stroma.
David Castañeda
Castañeda plays Diego Hargreeves, who is also known as Number Two. Before his appearance in The Umbrella Academy, Castañeda appeared in the successful film Sicario: Day of the Solado, playing Hector, a young man who works for the cartel and smuggles illegal immigrants across the border. The actor has also featured on several TV projects including the NBC drama Switched as Birth, as well as an appearance in The CW’s acclaimed Jane the Virgin.
Emmy Raver-Lampman
Before appearing in The Umbrella Academy, actress and singer Emmy Raver-Lampman performed in various Broadway productions, including Wicked and Hamilton. She has also had small roles on TV shows like Odd Mom Out and A Million Little Things. The Umbrella Academy is her biggest role to date.
Robert Sheehan
Robert Sheehan plays Klaus Hargreeves, who is able to speak to the dead and manifest spirits into the real world. Fans may recognize Sheehan from the acclaimed British sci-fi comedy-drama, Misfits. He played Nathan Young and the series was a huge hit.
Aidan Gallagher
Aidan Gallagher is the youngest cast member, and he got his big break on Nickelodeon’s comedy series, Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn as Nicky. He has successfully transitioned from roles on children’s channels to more adult roles.
Justin H. Min
Justin H. Min portrays the deceased sibling, Ben Hargreeves, and he did not have many acting credentials before his time on the show. He has since had some guest appearances in shows like Faking It, CSI: Cyber and Pure Genius, but The Umbrella Academy marks his biggest role to date.
Cameron Britton
Cameron Britton portrays Hazel, one of the time-traveling assassins employed by the Temps Commission and assigned to prevent Number Five from stopping the apocalypse. Fans may recognize him from his appearance on the Netflix hit series Mindhunter. He plays the serial killer Ed Kemper and won a Primetime Emmy Award for this performance. He also appeared in Stitchers, a Freefrom sci-fi series.
Mary J. Blige
Mary J. Blige portrays Cha-Cha, who is Hazel’s partner in crime, and most of us will know her firstly as the hugely successful recording artist that she is, having won nine Grammy Awards. She is also a successful actress and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars for her supporting role in the 2017 movie Mudbound. Other acting credits include Empire, black-ish, and How to Get Away with Murder.
John Magaro
John Magaro plays Leonard Peabody, or Harold Jenkins, who is looking for revenge against the Academy. You may remember him from movies such as The Big Short and Carol. Magaro is also known for his portrayal of Douglas Damiano in Not Fade Away, a film set in the 1960s, which follows a group of friends who form a rock band. He has also made appearances on TV, in shows such as Orange is the New Black.
