The Umbrella Academy is one of Netflix's most successful series, which is why it comes as no surprise that its third season, just released on the streaming platform, was praised by critics and fans alike. The show, created by Steve Blackman and inspired by the Dark Horse Comics comic book series of the same name, features a cast of international stars, such as Elliot Page, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min, among many others that were added every season.

The first season of The Umbrella Academy introduces the audience to a very dysfunctional family: the Hargreeves, seven siblings gifted with powers who were born in extremely unusual and mysterious circumstances, as part of 43 single-day pregnancies. Following their adoption by Reginald (Colm Feore), an eccentric billionaire, these superheroes were put through training sessions that eventually wore them and their family relationships down. Several years later, and after the death of their father, the siblings are reunited and are told that they must prevent a global apocalypse. From then on, the group must travel in time and space to avoid the end of the world, and due to some errors on their part, they create a few problems along the way.And so, by season three, viewers are introduced to The Sparrow Academy, a new batch of superhero siblings adopted by Reginald, who have replaced the originals in a new timeline. There is one major problem, though: this family seems to be far more prepared than the Umbrella Academy siblings, something that is bound to lead to some trouble within the family.

One of the most interesting aspects of The Umbrella Academy's third season was discovering the new and interesting powers of The Sparrow Academy, as well as seeing how they interact with the original siblings' powers. It's known that, originally, Reginald numbered each set of brothers based on how useful their powers were to him, but just comparing the powers of Luther (Hopper) and Viktor (Page), #1 and #7 of the Umbrella Academy, one notices that this man's listing system may not have been all that realistic. Then again, following the first fight between both families in the latest season, one question prevails: who is really the most powerful Hargreeves? Disregarding Reginald's own ranking, in this article we will take a one-by-one look at the powers of all the characters in the show, ranking them by strength and potential.

15 Diego

Diego The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Umbrella Academy's #2 can wield knives at his disposal and has an excellent aim. These two attributes, combined with his ability to fight one-on-one, turn him into a foe to be feared. Still, the superhero portrayed by David Castaneda is ranked at the bottom of the list as all his skills could also be acquired through proper training.

14 Marcus

Marcus The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Marcus is the Sparrow Academy's #1, played by Justin Cornwell. This character has the same powers as the Umbrella Academy's #1: he is gifted with superhuman strength and outstanding reactions, something that he constantly trains to maintain at the highest level. At the same time, he has shown strong leadership skills, since he is in charge of keeping the peace among his siblings.

13 Luther

Luther The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Had this ranking been based exclusively on strength, Marcus would definitely be in a higher position than Luther since, even though they have similar powers, it is notorious that Sparrow Academy's #1 is far stronger than Umbrella Academy's #1. However, there is one bonus feature that makes Tom Hopper's character rank above Cornwell's: he is half-ape, per Vulture, which allows him to be tougher in battle situations.

12 Sloane

Sloane The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Genesis Rodriguez's character is one of the most empathetic and likable members of the Sparrow Academy, and is largely responsible for bringing both families together. Yet as nice as Sloane is, she is also dangerous: she has the ability to control gravity, allowing her to manipulate objects and people as she pleases.

11 Jayme

Jayme The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Jayme is a member of the Sparrow Academy that definitely deserved a lot more screen time. This young woman played by Cazzie David has a very peculiar power: she can produce a hallucinogenic poison that kicks in only by touching her enemy's skin, unleashing an illusion that paralyzes them, taking them out of combat. In many cases, this hallucination also serves a second purpose, revealing the opponent's weaknesses, information that she can use to her advantage on the battlefield.

10 Ben

Ben in The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Ben is the only sibling who reprises his abilities in both timelines, in spite of the obvious differences in personality between the Sparrow Academy's Ben and the original one. Justin H. Min's character is capable of summoning Eldritch Tentacles that emerge from his torso and manipulating them individually, a very useful ability when it comes to fighting.

9 Fei

Fei The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Perhaps Fei's greatest strength is also her biggest weakness. However, she is still one of the most powerful of the group, with a fearsome personality. Similarly to Ben, Fei (Britne Oldford) has the ability to summon ravens from her back in order to see and hear her enemies from every angle no matter where they are. Yet, as intimidating as her raven flock is and the damage they can do, if they are hit or injured, Fei can feel it too.

8 Alphonso

Alphonso The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Alphonso (Jake Epstein) is one of the most fun characters to be introduced this latest season, featuring a very complex power that appears to come as a blessing to a young man who doesn't really enjoy battling that much. Sparrow #4 has the ability to mirror any blows and injuries inflicted on him by his opponent without feeling pain. At the same time, he can inflict wounds on himself to hurt others, skills that eventually cause his physical appearance, most notably his face and neck, to become scarred.

7 Harlan

Harlan The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Harlan (Callum Keith Rennie) himself is not part of the academies. In fact, his powers arise after Viktor saved him as a child. However, the man is definitely a threat, as he can manipulate sound waves, even those that are inaudible to most, in order to inflict damage. Due to the time spent trying to understand his powers, he knows far more about them than Viktor. However, on account of his difficulty to control his reactions to external triggers, his powers often turn out to be a major flaw, becoming uncontrollable.

6 Allison

Allison in The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) is a character that grew more complex over the seasons, especially due to the events she experienced on her journey into the past. The power she was given at birth was to mind-control everyone to do what she wishes whenever she starts a sentence with "I heard a rumor". However, by season three, this woman's power stands stronger than ever, being able to control minds without even saying a word. It is possible that Allison's abilities will continue to grow stronger in the fourth season, so she is likely to become an even greater threat in the future.

5 Christopher

Christopher The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Sparrow Academy's #7 is not human, but a combat-engineered cube whose origin is still unclear. Among his powers are telekinesis, the ability to manipulate the temperature of an environment and freeze his opponents, and the power to infuse a crippling fear that leaves the opponent paralyzed. Even though Christopher understands everyone around him, the only ones who seem to understand him are his Sparrow Academy siblings.

4 Lila

Lila The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Lila (Ritu Arya) is another character who is not a member of the Hargreeves family, but, unlike Harlan, she is one of the 43 children born out of the mysterious one-day pregnancies. Her impressive power places her near the top of our ranking: the young woman can mimic the powers of every other character in the series just by being in proximity to them. This incredible skill makes her a major threat to any foe. Yet Lila faces two drawbacks: she can only mimic one power at a time and, if there are no people with powers nearby, she can't reproduce them by herself.

3 Klaus

Klaus The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Given what the audience knew about Klaus from the first and second seasons, he already deserved a prime spot in this ranking. However, the show's third season made it clear that there are many unexplored aspects of his powers, so Klaus' potential is truly gigantic. The character portrayed by Robert Sheehan was introduced as a young man capable of interacting with the spirits of the dead and bringing them into physical form if required. However, in this latest season, he found out that his powers go far beyond that, as he also has the ability to come back to life after being fatally wounded.

2 Five

Five The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

Armed with a wicked sense of humor and a brilliant mind, Five (Aidan Gallagher) has teleportation abilities that allow him to travel through time and space at will. Simultaneously, the man caged in a child's body has honed his battle skills to the max, which combined with his powers, turn him into a deadly threat. Also, his ability to travel through time allows him to gain access to more information, keeping him one step ahead of the rest at all times.

1 Viktor

Viktor The Umbrella Academy
Netflix

At the top of this list is the most mistakenly underrated member of the Umbrella Academy: Viktor Hargreeves (Elliot Page). Neglected by his father and siblings throughout his childhood and teenage years, Viktor only discovered as an adult his awesome gift of manipulating sound waves to inflict damage on others. While it took him a while to come into possession of his powers after ignoring them for so long, Viktor quickly became the siblings' greatest threat, with skills powerful enough to wipe out the planet that remain largely undiscovered to this day. In the third season it was revealed that, in addition to all his powers, Viktor has the ability to retrieve the powers he granted to others.
