The unorthodox superhero team-slash-family, The Umbrella Academy, will return for one last time, as the series is renewed for a fourth and final season on Netflix. Announced via the official Netflix Twitter account, fans of the warped adventures of The Umbrella Academy can now breathe a sigh of relief as the Hargreeves’ will be allowed to conclude their story properly. Check out the announcement from the streaming giant below.

Series creator Steve Blackman has responded to the news of a fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy in a statement saying, “I’m so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings’ journey we began five years ago. But before we get to that conclusion, we’ve got an amazing story ahead for Season 4, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes.”

The principal cast members, including Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya and Colm Feore, are all set to return for The Umbrella Academy Season 4, with Steve Blackman once again on board as showrunner and executive producer.

Released in 2019 and based on the Dark Horse comic by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, the first season of The Umbrella Academy begins in 1989, when a highly unusual occurrence sees forty-three infants inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy. Seven of these mysterious babies are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his "children" to save the world.

The most reason third season picks up with the Hargreeves’ right after the events of season 2, and drops the siblings into yet another godforsaken timeline. This time, The Umbrella Academy has been replaced by the Sparrow Academy, a smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs version of the superhero family. The Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas, who quickly retreat to the mystery Hotel Obsidian. As it turns out, The Sparrow Academy war is the least of everyone’s concerns.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 ends with a literal pushing of the reset button, with Allison reunited with Claire and Ray, while the rest of The Umbrella Academy emerge superpowerless in a city controlled by their father, Reginald.

There are still so many questions in need of answers, but thankfully Steve Blackman has always envisioned The Umbrella Academy as a four-season run. “I have what I think is an end to the TV show,” Blackman said back in June. “Netflix may want more than that, but I have a sweet thought of where I think the show should end and where we’re going.

Starring an ensemble cast that includes Cameron Britton, Mary J. Blige, John Magaro, Adam Godley, Colm Feore, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood, Marin Ireland, Kate Walsh, Genesis Rodriguez, and Britne Oldford alongside the likes of Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher as the titular Umbrella Academy, the first three seasons of The Umbrella Academy are available to stream on Netflix now.
