Netflix’s upcoming third season of The Umbrella Academy is “massive” and “has a completely different energy” to what has come before, teases star Emmy Raver-Lampman. Speaking with Collider, Raver-Lampman, who stars in The Umbrella Academy as Allison Hargreeves AKA The Rumor AKA Number Three, is also hoping that, despite delays, the third season will land on Netflix in the summer.

"I hope this summer because I want to see this season so badly. We've started doing ADR and it's a massive season. There's just a lot of work in post that has to be done, but the little snippets that I've seen so far when I've been working on ADR in the studio, it looks incredible and it looks so exciting, and it just has a completely different energy. So, for everybody's sake, including my own, I really do hope it comes out this summer. I'm so ready to see it."

Creating a “different energy” seems to be something that The Umbrella Academy revels in, with the second season feeling distinct from the first. So, it sounds like season 3 will continue this trend. Raver-Lampman is not the only one ready and waiting for The Umbrella Academy Season 3, with fans having waited patiently since the second season’s cliffhanger ending aired back in July 2020. Thanks to the ongoing global circumstances, season 3 has suffered delays, but Raver-Lampman assures fans that it will be worth the extended wait.

"I also think, due to COVID, I think there is also a massive backlog of VFX and shows in post and needing to get out and get release dates and stuff. I think, the 12 to 16 months is normal, especially for a show as big as ours that have so much VFX, but I also think you throw covid into the mix and I think it's adding a bit more time than everybody would want. But I can assure you it will be worth it because I am really, really excited about this coming season."

Based on Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá's Dark Horse comic book series of the same name, the final moments of the second season found the Hargreeves siblings being thrown into an alternate timeline, coming face-to-face with a group of shadowy figures known as The Sparrow Academy.

After catching a small glimpse of them, Season 3 will introduce The Umbrella Academy variant, The Sparrow Academy. The superhero team will be made up of #1, a charming, chiseled, colossus, who keeps the family together; an alternate version of Ben, now known as #2, who is far from the sweet Ben we know and love; Fei AKA #3, who comes across as a misanthrope who would rather be alone than spend even a second with you; Alphonso AKA #4, whose years of crime-fighting have left his face and body with countless visual reminders of his battles; Sloane AKA #5, a romantic and a dreamer who feels a higher cosmic calling leaving her eager to see the world and experience a life beyond her upbringing; #6, Jayme, a loner hidden under a hoodie who doesn’t say much because she doesn’t have to; and last but by no means least, #7, Christopher, a telekinetic cube of unknown origin who can turn the room freezing cold and induce paralyzing fear.

Starring Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castaneda, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Justin H. Min, Colm Feore, and Ritu Arya, Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy is expected to land on Netflix sometime in 2022.
