The Walking Dead may be ending but AMC has no intention of abandoning the universe yet. Not by a long shot. In addition to revealing that the main series will be concluding its run, the network has announced not one but two new spin-offs set within the franchise that will be coming our way after the main series wraps up its run following season 11 in 2022. We will be getting a show focused on Daryl and Carol, as well as a brand new anthology series set within the world of the walkers.

The Walking Dead Daryl and Carol Spinoff is focused on Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride). It will premiere in 2023, with Angela Kang on board as showrunner. Kang has been serving as showrunner for the flagship series over the past couple of seasons. Kang co-created the series, which doesn't officially have a name yet, with Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of The Walking Dead Universe. McBride had this to say about it.

"Of course, I've always enjoyed working so closely with Norman throughout these many seasons. In playing Carol, and as a viewer of the show, I've also long been intrigued with 'Daryl and Carol,' and by what so early on between them, even then, felt somehow bound. Their shared history is long, and each's own personal fight to survive, even longer, the more obvious aspect of what has kept them close and loyal. But there is also a rather mysterious aspect to their fondness for one another that I enjoy, and their playfulness when the world permits. I'm very curious! Angela has a way of shaking things up in great and unexpected ways. She's like a kid playing with the dimmer switch! I'm very excited!"

AMC is also working with Scott M. Gimple to develop Tales of the Walking Dead. The show is described as "an episodic anthology with individual episodes or arcs of episodes focused on new or existing characters, backstories or other stand-alone experiences." Beyond that, the company is working with Gimple to develop several other new projects set within The Walking Dead universe. Norman Reedus had this to say about the upcoming Daryl and Carol spin-off.

"I feel incredibly honored to be a part of 'The Walking Dead.' This show changed my life

and career and everyone involved has truly been a family for me over the last decade.

I'm thankful for AMC's love and support and know there's so much more story to tell and

so much more to bring the best fans in the world. Daryl's relationship with Carol has always been my favorite relationship on the show (sorry Rick). I love the way these characters interact and relate to each other on so many levels and can't wait to see where their ride goes from here."

The Walking Dead, which is based on Robert Kirkman's Image Comics series of the same name, originally launched in 2010. It quickly became a huge hit and, though not what it once was, remains one of the biggest shows on cable. Though, with Andrew Lincoln departing as Rick Grimes a couple of years ago already and with the comics ending last year, concluding the main series with Season 11 makes sense.

Aside from these new spin-offs, Fear the Walking Dead season 6 is coming our way, as well as the upcoming limited, two-season event series The Walking Dead: World Beyond. That show is set to debut next month. We'll be sure to keep you posted as any further information is made available. This news comes to us directly from AMC.
