The Walking Dead producer David Alpert was recently part of a panel at a Producers Guild event where he discussed how they already have an idea in place that takes the hit AMC zombie series into the far off future. With a long running comic book as it's source material, the team behind the popular TV series already hav the storyline planned out through at least Season 12.

Here's what David Alpert had to say when asked about pulling from the source material on The Walking Dead.

"I happen to love working from source material, specifically because we have a pretty good idea of what season 10 is gonna be. We know where season 11 and 12 [are going]...we have benchmarks and milestones for those seasons if we're lucky enough to get there."

The series has found a fine balance between creating its own world, and bringing in storylines already established in the comic book, so there is no way to predict how things may play out for Rick and his dwendling group of survivors. Its likely that this rag-tag team will head for Alexandria, a port-of call in the comics since issue #69, and villian Negan, who doesn't treat Glenn too kindly, has been previously hinted at.

The Walking Dead currently has a strong following that has continued to build with each new seaaon, so it wouldn't be entirely impossible for the show to reach it's goal of Season 12. The cast and crew are currently shooting /tv/the-walking-dead/season 5 with the season premiere set for this October.
