The Weinstein Co. has bought the rights to Gillian Armstrong's fictionalized Harry Houdini biopic, Death Defying Acts.

The film stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Guy Pearce in a tumultuous love affair between the famed magician (Pearce) and a psychic (Zeta-Jones) who tries to con him by holding a seance to contact his dead mother, The Hollywood Reporter says. Tony Grisoni and Brian Ward wrote the screenplay.

Weinstein will debet Death Defying Acts at the Festival de Cannes in May and release it domestically next fall.
