According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Weinstein Co. has grabbed worldwide rights to develop and produce a feature based on the late '80s TV crime drama The Equalizer, Harvey Weinstein said Thursday.

Mace Neufeld, Tony Eldridge and Michael Sloan will produce the project based on the CBS series, which starred Edward Woodward as a well-connected private detective with a history as a government operative. Eric Robinson and Brendan Deneen will oversee production on behalf of the indie studio.

The writing on the show, which ran from 1985-89, was lauded by Weinstein in a statement as always smart and very unpredictable.
