The Weinstein Company has picked up director Justin Kurzel's upcoming Shakespearean drama Macbeth.

Based on Shakespeare's Scottish play, The film tells the story of General Macbeth. He plots to take the throne of King Duncan using wicked means. Michael Fassbender is starring as the title character with Marion Cotillard taking the role of Lady Macbeth. The project is said to be keeping the original dialogue.

Macbeth has been adapted many time over the years with the most recent being directed by Rupert Goold starring Patrick Stewart. The version was broadcast on BBC Four and was based on his stage adaptation for the Chichester Festival Theatre in 2007.

Justin Kurzel is directing from a script by Jacob Koskoff and Todd Louiso. Iain Canning and Emile Sherman will be producing. No production schedule has been released.
