The CW has dropped a new trailer for The Winchesters, a new show that serves as a prequel to the hit series Supernatural. A spinoff that focuses on the "love story" between Sam and Dean's parents, The Winchesters stars Drake Rodger as John Winchester and Meg Donnelly as Mary, though their future-son Dean (Jensen Ackles) also appears in the trailer. You can watch the new video below ahead of the show's premiere on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022.

The trailer highlights how John and Mary come to meet and subsequently hunt supernatural beings together. Of course, the trailer also teases some of the monsters we'll be seeing in the episodes. The series featuring Ackles as Dean is also a nod to how the character serves as the narrator of the series, telling the story of how his parents met from his perspective. Ideally, The CW hopes to have the series feel familiar but different, offering a new experience to Supernatural fans.

Teasing the Supernatural connections, Ackles previously told TVLine, "To be honest, I was like, 'I don't know if we can do this,’ and then it took [writer] Robbie [Thompson] and me sitting down going like, 'Well, we know we have to do this, and we know we have to do that, but if we just connect those dots with a straight line, that's not entertaining. That's boring. That's a simple story. If we connect those dots in a much crazier, wild Supernatural way, then we've got a show.' So that's what we've been doing."

Will The Winchesters Be As Successful As Supernatural?

The Winchesters
The CW

Supernatural lasted 15 seasons, and that's going to be difficult for The Winchesters to match, as it would be for any new series. But while this is a new show, The Winchesters can also be seen as an extension of Supernatural, as the new series came as a result of Ackles wanting to tell more of the Winchesters' story.

"After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn't over," Ackles said in a statement when the series was announced. "Because like we say in the show, 'nothing ever really ends, does it?' When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents' relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey."

Along with Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger, The Winchesters stars Binaca Kajlich, Demetria McKinney, and Jojo Fleites. The series was developed by Robbie Thompson, Jensen Ackles, and Danneel Ackles. The official synopsis is as follows:

Before Sam and Dean, there was John and Mary. Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester, this is the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary, and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.

The Winchesters will premiere on The CW on Oct. 11, and for the season, new episodes will be made available to stream on The CW's app on the following day.
