The highly anticipated 3rd season of Netflix's The Witcher series, inspired by the book series of the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and CD Projekt RED's best-selling video game franchise, may be split into two parts.

In an interview with Collider, showrunner and creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said that season 3 might air in two parts, but they have not decided yet. Schmidt said:

''We haven’t discussed that yet, but at this point I think what we see happening across all sort of streamers, I wouldn’t rule it out. I do think that obviously we don’t put anything out that we’re not incredibly proud of. So that dictates our entire launch date. And I think it’ll be interesting. Again, we have a way still a very long time, eight-ish months until The Witcher season 3 comes out. So God willing, we get it all out at the same time. But who knows, we will see what happens.''

The 39-year-old actor will bid farewell to his beloved Geralt of Rivia role with The Witcher season 3. After that, Cavill will hand the swords to The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth. It was known that Cavill wanted a faithful adaptation of the books, although it is unclear why Cavill left the project. Another rumor is that the actor disagreed with the producers and crew during the production. Lauren Schmidt expressed 'mutual respect,' denied the rumor, and added: ''Please, please, please come back in six months when we can talk.''

The other person commenting on the matter is Joey Batey, who plays Jaskier in Netflix's The Witcher series. At the premiere of 'The Witcher: Blood Origin,' a spinoff mini-series that takes place 1200 years before The Witcher events and has been flooded with negative reviews, the actor said that he was sad because of the Cavill's departure. Batey spoke to Metro.co.uk:

''I was very sad. I mean, I'm not gonna lie. It was a little gutting because Henry just brings the show. He has had this show on his shoulders for four years now and brings this strength on the bad days, and the joy on the good ones. So he will be really missed. I'll miss him, like nobody's business. I've been talking to Liam and he is so keen and is already throwing himself into every little corner of this world and this universe.''

The Witcher, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, and The Witcher: Blood Origin is available on Netflix.
