Screenwriter Mark Bomback (Total Recall, Jack the Giant Killer) has come aboard to rewrite the script for The Wolverine.

Christopher McQuarrie wrote the original screenplay, which follows Hugh Jackman's title character to Japan, where he will search for more clues about his origin. There, he encounters the criminal underworld and a new love interest. James Mangold is directing, which will reunite him with Hugh Jackman for the first time since the romantic comedy Kate & Leopold.

No concrete production start date has been set yet, although it is said producers are aiming for a spring 2012 start in Vancouver. Hugh Jackman will begin work on the superhero sequel after he wraps on the musical Les Miserables.

Hugh Jackman is producing The Wolverine alongside Lauren Shuler Donner and John Palermo.
