Florence Pugh prepares to help a young girl who refuses to eat in the official trailer for The Wonder. The film is helmed by Sebastián Lelio, responsible for projects such as Gloria, A Fantastic Woman, and Disobedience. The Wonder will be the first feature film from Lelio since Gloria Bell, with the film headed to Netflix later this year.

The Wonder seems to have an interesting premise, with Pugh aiding the young girl while being perplexed by her seemingly good health after fasting for months. The official synopsis for the film reads: "Set in The Irish Midlands in 1862, the story follows a young girl who stops eating but remains miraculously alive and well. English nurse Lib Wright is brought to a tiny village to observe eleven-year-old Anna O'Donnell. Tourists and pilgrims mass to witness the girl who is said to have survived without food for months. Is the village harboring a saint 'surviving on manna from heaven' or are there more ominous motives at work?" The brand-new trailer for The Wonder can be found below.

Although Pugh seems to be witnessing a miracle upon first glance, The Wonder is sure to turn more sinister as it progresses. The tension builds throughout the trailer, setting the stage for the mysterious tale of what's to come. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Emma Donoghue, which won a Giller Prize and the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Historical Fiction. The Wonder stars Niamh Algar, Ciarán Hinds, Tom Burke, Toby Jones, Elaine Cassidy, Dermot Crowley, and David Wilmot alongside Pugh. Screenwriter Alice Birch will reunite with Pugh, as they've previously collaborated on Lady Macbeth, Pugh's breakout role in 2016. The Wonder arrives in select theaters and on Netflix later this year, Nov. 16.

"Alice was very happy when Florence signed on," Lelio explains. "She is an actress who brings a great level of interpretation to her roles. She makes you want to be on her side. You feel invited into film because of her magnetism and strength." The director admits they had to change aspects of the script to fit her as an actress. "We had to rethink the script in a way. The energy of the scenes were redefined by her presence." Fans can watch Pugh take over her latest role as Lib Wright when Netflix's The Wonder arrives on the streaming giant on Nov. 16.
