The Weinstein Company has nabbed North American distribution rights to the Paolo Sorrentino directed road drama This Must Be the Place.

Sean Penn stars in the film as an aging Goth rocker fashioned after The Cure's Robert Smith who goes on the hunt for a Nazi that once tormented his recently deceased father.

This Must Be the Place grabbed a lot of recent attention at Cannes, where some distributors hoped to get the rights in order to push Sean Penn's award worthy performance. It is now too late, though, to give the film a proper release in time for Oscar consideration.

About the film, Harvey Weinstein said this.

"Paolo Sorrentino is a true auteur. We were gripped by his film and are excited to share it with American audiences. Sean Penn proves once again that he is one of the finest actors of our time."

There is no mention of when This Must Be the Place may be released, but it will most likely be sometime in 2012.
