It looks like a second remake of the 1968 Steve McQueen movie, The Thomas Crown Affair, is coming from MGM, with the announcement that Wes Tooke will be writing the latest "reimagining" of the movie, which will see Michael B. Jordan take on the lead role, formerly played by McQueen in the original and by Pierce Brosnan in a 1999 remake. Jordan is also said to be producing on the movie with Marvel's Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

The Thomas Crown Affair was originally a neo-noir heist movie, which starred McQueen alongside Faye Dunaway. The story sees the millionaire sportsman and businessman, Thomas Crown, manage to accomplish the perfect crime after hiring a group of men to steal a substantial sum from a Boston bank and dump it in a cemetery trash can from which he retrieves it and gradually deposits it into a Swiss Bank account. When insurance investigator, Vicki Anderson, played by Dunaway, is asked to investigate the robbery, she quickly suspects Crown's involvement, leading to a cat and mouse game between the two.

The original movie was a hit for Steve McQueen, making $14 million at the box office from its $4 million budget, although the critics were quite divided and mostly critical of the movie's "thin" plot. When the 1999 remake came along, there were a number of changes to the plot, with the heist now involving the theft of a $100 million painting, and Crown and the investigator becoming lovers by the end of the movie, unlike the original in which McQueen's Crown double crossed Anderson and flew off on a jet alone. The movie was again a financial success, but reviews remained mixed, although this time it did gain praise as a "sleek and stylish" remake.

With both previous versions bringing in a decent box office return, and Michael B. Jordan being in demand following his roles in Marvel's Black Panther, Rocky sequels, Creed and Creed II, and Tom Clancy's Without Remorse, the combination seems to be the perfect mix for a box office hit, and sources have said that the project has been pushed forward as a priority for the studio. The third version of the film was originally announced back in 2016, with Jordan already signed to the lead, but from there nothing much happened with the idea until this new announcement.

Wes Tooke has been building quite a reputation of his own recently, quickly establishing himself as one of the in demand go-to writers working in Hollywood right now. His previous work has included Colony, WWII movie, Midway, acting as co-executive producer on the Amazon comedy Jean-Claude Van Johnson and is currently working on an untitled Universal Monster/Lord Miller project which has Channing Tatum down to star and produce with Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Jordan may have only had one appearance in the MCU, but like Chris Evans before him also appeared previously playing The Human Torch in the Fantastic Four, this time in the 2015 remake. While he may have come to a swift end as Killmonger in Black Panther, the actor has reprised his role for the new What If...? animated series which is due to start streaming on Disney+ on August 11th.
