With his new film Chariot now available, star Thomas Mann spoke with us about where his career might be taking him next. In the new film, written and directed by Adam Sigal, Mann is part of an ensemble cast that also includes John Malkovich, Rosa Salazar, and Shane West. It was released to theaters and VOD on April 15 by Saban Films.

Coinciding with the release of Chariot, Mann spoke at length about the film in an exclusive interview with MovieWeb. We also asked the actor if there were any dream roles in particular he was gunning for, but for Mann, there's no one specific character, though he admits it'd be "fantastic" to star in a new take on an iconic film. What Mann really sees as a "dream role" has less to do with any specific character and would instead be working with his favorite directors.

"The absolute dream role, I mean, you know, I think the dream role for me would probably be getting to work with one of my favorite directors or something, you know, it would be because it's not even like, oh, like, if they were to remake Taxi Driver. Sure, that would be a fantastic part. But I would be just as happy doing, you know, a supporting role in a Coen Brothers movie or a Paul Thomas Anderson movie. You know, it just it really depends. So, I don't know, I don't have a dream role. I'm just taking it as it comes."

Mann is taking the roles as they come, but what will be coming next? According to Mann, it will just have to depend on the offers that come his way, noting that he's especially drawn to "unique" films and characters. As the actor explains, that's what got him on board for Chariot, and he gave the film his all.

"What I get to do next, that'll just depend on the scripts that come my way and what I respond to, in that given moment. And so basically, like if someone comes to me, and it's unique, and I think the part is something that I can do well. And it has to have some element of something that I feel like I haven't done before... but in no way am I trying to like check boxes off or anything like that. It's not quite so planned out... when something like this [Chariot] comes along, and it's really unique, you just want to take that risk and say, 'Let's give it a shot and make it the best it can be.'"
