Thor is putting together the greatest superhero team the world has ever seen in the final trailer for the upcoming MCU sequel, Thor: Love and Thunder. Released courtesy of Marvel Entertainment, the latest footage is heavier on comedy than ever before, and offers new glimpses at Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster AKA The Mighty Thor, and Christian Bale as the villainous Gorr the God Butcher.

The footage also features a whole lot of the Guardians of the Galaxy, with the likes of Rocket Racoon and Groot once again doing what they do best. Being delightful. Promising more love and more thunder, the trailer's biggest talking point is surely the moment that Thor performs an impressive Jean-Claude Van Damme-style split.

Intriguingly, this newly released footage even has a major Easter egg linking Thor: Love and Thunder to the previous MCU outing, Eternals, with two giant Celestials shown during the final trailer’s first few seconds.

The first reactions to Thor: Love and Thunder have now emerged, with the consensus being a largely positive one. One lucky viewer calls the sequel “predictably hilarious yet unexpectedly personal and heartfelt,” before praising Christian Bale and Natalie Portman's performances adding that they “truly shine while Waititi delivers an emotional story. I think this may be my favorite Thor movie.”

Another describes Thor: Love and Thunder a “classic Thor adventure!” Praising the latest Marvel outing for being “everything I wanted it to be,” they conclude that the fourth Thor movie is “Big, colorful, weird Guns N' Roses-fueled battles to go w/ a hopelessly romantic story about discovering love in unexpected places. Christian Bale & Russell Crowe are especially great. And Korg!”

Many of these reactions heap praise on Christian Bale’s menacing performance as Gorr the God Butcher, as well as the addition of Natalie Portman as The Mighty Thor. A role that many feel is the finally worthy of Portman’s talents.

Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor on a journey unlike anything he's ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who – to Thor's surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher's vengeance and stop him before it's too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor alongside Christian Bale as Gorr, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Waititi himsel as Korg, Russell Crowe as Zeus, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, with the likes of Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper reprising their roles as the Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in the United States on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
