Every Marvel movie comes with a whole range of cut scenes, but it seems that Thor: Love and Thunder could have more than most. Despite the latest Marvel Studios release having one of the shortest runtimes of the MCU, Natalie Portman has revealed that there are a lot of scenes that were recorded in many different ways, including one scene that was filmed 20 times. How many of these additional takes and scenes make it onto the movie’s Blu-ray and DVD release is yet to be seen, but it appears there will be plenty of additional footage to choose from when it comes to putting together the home release’s special features.

Thor: Love and Thunder arrives today in some countries, with others launching on July 8, and that means there will soon be a flood of internet opinions, spoilers, and details that will be hard to avoid. However, it seems that what is seen in cinemas is only part of the original plan for Thor’s latest outing and while speaking to IndieWire, returnee Portman explained about there were a lot of things didn’t end up in the movie. She said:

“There were whole sequences, planets, characters, and worlds that didn’t end up in the movie that were hilarious and amazing and [that] we spent a lot of time and energy on, and certainly the entire crew also designing and conceiving. It’s just amazing how much great material is not in the film, considering how much great material is in it. Usually, it’s like, you’re just trying to get enough good stuff to put in the film, and this had overflow. So that was really surprising.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but there are some very emotional scenes. The interesting thing was how we had room to workshop them. We filmed 20 different versions of [one key scene]. There’s a few pivotal emotional scenes, but we did really, really different things, many different times.”

Many Cameos Were Cut From Thor: Love and Thunder

While it is not uncommon for many scenes to be cut from movies, there were a number of big cameos that were filmed but will not be appearing in the final version of Thor: Love and Thunder. Christian Bale recently commented on some of the former Marvel stars that he filmed scenes with, but who were ultimately left out of the movie. He previously said:

"Taika [Waititi] really created just a really, really, really good cast... I got to work with Peter Dinklage, that's not in the final film, but I got to work with him, he's fantastic. I got to work with Jeff Goldblum, he's not in the final film either. As you see, lots of stuff ends up on the cutting room floor, even though it is beautiful, brilliant stuff."

In addition to this, Game of Thrones’ alum Lena Headey was also brought in by director Taika Waititi to film a mystery cameo, which would have seen her making her Marvel Studios debut, but that also didn’t make the final cut. However, the planned cameo had ended up forming part of a lawsuit against Headey by her former agent for commissions not paid, although the actress is denying their claims.
