While Sam Raimi recently joked that he isn’t sure whether Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is done with reshoots, it seems that Taika Waititi has decided that the next MCU entry, Thor: Love and Thunder, is in need of a few tweaks as the film reportedly heads into some more reshoots in the coming weeks. As has previously been explained on other Marvel projects, there are many reasons for reshoots, whether it is to pick up missed shots, refine others or add in additional scenes that just help make the story flow better. According to The Wrap, the Thor: Love and Thunder cast will be heading back into the studio, and it is quite possible that the ongoing evolving narrative of the MCU could also be a reason for the new footage being shot.

Thor: Love and Thunder brings back Chris Hemsworth for his fourth solo outing as the Norse God of Thunder. As one of the original MCU founding characters, Thor’s popularity was not initially realized, with his second movie, Thor: The Dark World, continuing to be thought of as one of the weakest in the entire Marvel franchise. It was only when Thor: Ragnarok arrived under the direction of Waititi that Thor found his mojo in an action-packed, bright and bouncy epic movie that introduced Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and also saw Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk along for the ride.

This time around, there is no Hulk, but the Guardians of the Galaxy team will be joining Thor and Valkyrie in a story that also sees Natalie Portman reprising her role as Jane Foster, who throughout the movie will be transformed into The Mighty Thor and help fight against Christian Bale’s Gorr The God Butcher. Where all of this fits into the ongoing multiverse-spanning MCU narrative is unclear, but as the film moves closer, we will finally get a little more information on the storyline and potential impact on the MCU.

Taika Waititi Will Keep Very Much in Line With Thor: Ragnarok, One Of The MCU’s Most Successful Entries

While there is always a lot of speculation about why reshoots are occurring, there is certainly no need to worry about there being any colossal-scale changes made to the film. While there have been no official images or footage seen from the movie so far, it is almost certain that Taika Waititi will want to continue the same feel that made Thor: Ragnarok a complete turnaround for the Thor franchise. He previously said that the film is “the most bonkers thing” he has ever done, and in many ways, he has expected someone to come along and tell him that he needs to tone it down a little.

Many MCU fans are currently looking forward to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness releasing in May, and hopefully by the time that movie arrives, we will be seeing a trailer for Thor’s new adventure. While Waititi has recently joked that he probably won’t finish the movie until the day before the premiere, we can all rest assured that the film will be another huge hit for Marvel Studios, and will continue the unparalleled run of interconnected movies that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
