Although a lot of fans are excited about the return of Marvel’s “Strongest Avenger” in Thor: Love and Thunder, the movie has one big bone of contention in the form of villain Gorr The God Butcher. Even though there has not yet been a single image or piece of footage revealed of Christian Bale’s character from the actual movie, with all references instead coming for toy line reveals, the expected appearance of Gorr has seriously divided fans. However, those who claim to have seen footage of Bale’s Gorr have said that he is a truly terrifying addition to the MCU’s list of bad guys.

The first teaser for Thor: Love and Thunder finally arrived a few weeks ago, and while it gave fleeting looks at Russell Crowe’s Zeus, Natalie Portman as The Mighty Thor, and the return of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy, there was no hint of Christian Bale’s new villain in the footage. While there is likely to be more seen in the first full trailer for the movie, which will likely arrive sometime in the next couple of weeks ahead of the movie’s July premiere, those who have allegedly seen Gorr in action have suggested fans shouldn’t be too worried.

Industry insiders John Campea, Rogert Meyer Burnett and Erin Cummings said on The John Campea Show that Bale’s new Marvel villain is “a thing right out of nightmares.” While they did not give away too much, the details shared about Gorr should at least settle some fan issues, which mainly center around the character appearing to be not heavily made-up with prosthetics and just being Christian Bale in a flowing toga-like garment. Campea says:

“We have footage of Gorr that we are not sharing with people because I got in trouble for that before. When you guys see Christian Bale as Gorr, oh my god. What we saw was straight up freaky, it’s a thing out of nightmares, Gorr is straight out of nightmares.”

Whatever fans currently think of the supposed look of Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher, director Taika Waititi has certainly not held back on hyping the movie or the character up, going so far as to call him the best villain Marvel has ever had. With the likes of Thanos, Green Goblin and Killmonger having come before him, that is no small claim, but it is one that Waititi has been happy to make in early promotion of the movie. He previously said:

"It's a great, really fun, weird little group of heroes, a new team for Thor with Korg, Valkyrie and The Mighty Thor. And, in my humble opinion, we have probably the best villain that Marvel's ever had in Christian Bale."

That is certainly one way to hype up a character, and as we count down the days to the next trailer and its possible first look at Thor: Love and Thunder’s villain, there are many now waiting with bated breath to see exactly what is coming to the MCU this July.
