Marvel has expanded a lot over the years and, as such, they have managed to bring some of their famous superhero teams to the big and small screen. The Avengers have been ruling the movie world and soon, The Defenders will be taking over Netflix. But one team we have yet to see show up is the Thunderbolts. Marvel hasn't expressed plans on bringing the anti-hero team to the live-action universe yet, but some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe stars have already expressed interest in doing the show, were the opportunity to arise.

Jon Bernthal (The Punisher, Daredevil) and Gabriel Luna (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) both appeared at Phoenix Comicon over the weekend. Per Bleeding Cool, both actors were asked about a potential Thunderbolts TV series during their respective panels, and both of them expressed varying degrees of interest in participating in such a series. Gabriel Luna seemed to be more interested, saying that he would "love to do a Thunderbolts series with The Punisher and Elektra on Netflix." Jon Bernthal was asked about the same thing later at his panel, saying that he would be "interested in more Frank Castle stories if the script is right."

There is a lot to unpack here, but let's start with the fact that two very key players, Punisher and Ghost Rider, would be game for a Thunderbolts TV series. Granted, it was the Johnny Blaze version of Ghost Rider that appeared as a member of the Thunderbolts, but the Robbie Reyes version that Luna has been playing has been very well-liked, so there is no reason it couldn't work. Also, with Elodie Yung playing Elektra on Daredevil, and in the upcoming Defenders series, there are three members of the team already in place. Yung hasn't yet expressed interest in doing a Thunderbolts show, but there's no reason to think she wouldn't sign on for it.

For those who may not be familiar, Marvel's Thunderbolts are a team of anti-heroes, villains and heroes who wind up working together to do some good in the world. It is more or less Marvel's version of Suicide Squad, for a very general comparison. The nice thing about the team is that it has had a ton of various members of the years, so should Marvel could fill out the Thunderbolts roster quite easily, should this be something they wanted to explore at one point. Red Hulk? Baron Zemo? Even Luke Cage and Hawkeye have been members of the team at various points, so there are a lot of options on the table.

Unfortunately, it isn't as easy as taking several characters who are on Marvel TV shows and putting them in a crossover series. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Punisher take place in the same universe, but there really isn't much, if any, crossover between the ABC shows and the Netflix shows. But if Marvel wanted it to happen, it seems like a Thunderbolts show could definitely happen. At least they wouldn't have to talk Jon Bernthal and Gabriel Luna into it.
