The upcoming sequel series The Santa Clauses finds Tim Allen returning to a role he first played way, way back in 1994. Speaking with EW, Allen has revealed what it was like to once again don the glorious red suit of jolly old Saint Nick, revealing that seeing him as the festive favorite after all these years resulted in smiles on the faces of both children and adults alike.

"As I walked on set for the first time in the full regalia, everybody got very quiet, both adults and kids. When I show up dressed in the full suit and everything else, there's big smiles on people's faces. Little kids are quiet. I had totally forgotten that. It does feel like Santa's in the room."

The last we all saw of Tim Allen as Scott Calvin aka Santa Claus was in 2006’s The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. Thus, the new Disney+ miniseries picks up with Scott Calvin now on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can't be Santa forever. He's starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he's got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially two sons, one that grew up in Lakeside, Illinois and one that grew up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.

The Santa Clauses Will Find Tim Allen Acting Alongside His Daughter

This being a family story, it seems rather fitting that The Santa Clauses will find Allen acting alongside his real-life daughter, Elizabeth Allen-Dick, who joins the holiday franchise as Sandra Calvin-Claus, the youngest child of Scott and Carol.

"It's difficult to believe, but it had very little to do with me. I wanted to put my youngest daughter as an elf, just so she'd see herself in a movie. But as she was reading for that, she read so well that they said, ''We'd like to read her for more of a part.' I said, 'Whatever you want to do. I want nothing to do with it. I don't want to pitch my daughter for a part in the movie.' But she ended up moving to the high ranks. They loved how she read, loved it so much, because she's playing a 13-year-old girl and she is 13. They ended up casting her as Santa's daughter. It was a surprise but it became the most amazing experience."

Starring opposite his own daughter will no doubt lead to plenty of powerfully emotional moments, with Allen teasing what’s to come as Scott attempts to move his North Pole-born children to Chicago.

"I don't want to give too much away, but she doesn't want to go. So I tell her, 'Being afraid is okay as long as we can be afraid together.' Even saying the line, I get a little choked up. I looked right at her. One of my photographer buddies was shooting and said it was tear-jerking to watch. I said, 'Well, I'm looking at my kid.' And she literally showed what I learned from Pat Richardson on Home Improvement: Real actors can really emote real emotions. She did it to me there, and I reacted to it, and it was an amazing moment. I'll never forget it."

The Santa Clauses is set to premiere on Disney+ with two episodes on November 16, 2022.
